Springfield's downtown - Center City - is acting to establish itself as a regional hub for commerce, culture and community. Center City is building on established strengths and focusing on developing six key districts within its 70-block area of opportunity.
The National Main Street Center in Washington D.C., the leading organization addressing downtown renewal nationwide, reported in 2001 that retail sales were up in 56 percent of downtowns. Sixty-one percent reported an increase in the number of retail businesses. Ground-floor occupancy rates rose for 59 percent of respondents. Crowds at downtown events grew 78 percent of the time.
Led by a litany of investments in key facilities, Springfield's downtown is continuing its rebound as a source of business and entertainment activity.
Excellent opportunities abound throughout the Center City for commercial and residential investors.
