Huntington Makes 3-Year Commitment to Revitalization of Downtown Springfield
May 4, 2004 – Huntington Banks has announced a significant commitment to revitalization efforts for downtown Springfield. The announcement was made to the Center City Association today, with a number of local business and community leaders in attendance.
A $75,000 grant will be immediately put to work in accomplishing a number of important improvement and image-enhancement programs for the downtown area. Presently, there are over a dozen critical initiatives being spearheaded by the Center City Association, ranging from physical renovation to business development. Both partners recognize the importance of a healthy downtown as a crucial aspect to the vitality and prosperity of the greater Springfield and Clark County areas.
“We feel it is critically important that the Springfield business community fully engage in this revitalization effort in order to ensure a healthy downtown,” stated Glenda S. Greenwood, Huntington Vice President. “This underscores Huntington’s commitment to the community we serve.”
“This is a tremendous investment in the very heart of Springfield,” stated Horton Hobbs, Executive Director of Center City Association. “This generous commitment by Huntington will allow us to accelerate and expand our improvement efforts on behalf of Springfield businesses and the community as a whole.”
The Huntington Bank commitment extends from 2004 through 2007, with additional community investment commitments expected well into the future.
