Springfield City Schools

The Springfield City School District is engaged in a strategic plan to improve instruction and elevate student achievement at all levels, and it is making great strides with the encouragement and leadership of the Board of Education. Test scores and state measures of progress are on the rise for buildings and the district. Students are earning individual and group recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom, the performance hall and on the playing field. The 18 SCS teachers who have earned National Board Certification exemplify professionalism and high standards for the teaching staff. The district is restructuring schedules and expanding curriculum offerings to well serve students who will live their lives in the 21st century. Continuous improvement, based on the Baldrige principles, is the watchword.

Between 2002 and 2006, the district is building 10 new elementary schools, four new middle schools, and a new alternative school, and renovating two high school sites to replace 23 current facilities. This construction is in partnership with the Ohio School Facilities Commission, which is funding 82% of the costs, matched with 18% approved by local voters in November 2000. Technology, safety, accessibility and expanded use of facilities are among the many benefits Springfield's students and community will enjoy within the next five years, and for decades to come.
